Here is a log of activities preformed on a weekly basis with our project sponsor.

Meeting #20 - 07/10/2023

Discussion:

  • July 28 Friday Morning at 9:00am 

  • Show organization of presentation - 30 minute presentation  

  • Introduce project clearly - first slide 

  • Present clear requirements of the project 

  • Background information - No need to describe the details of the hardware, just why we chose it 

  • Main concentration should be on chapter #3 of the report 

  • Original contribution  

  • Testing 

  • Results 

Deliverables

  • Report updates 

  • Presentation notes 

  • Present TOC. 

  • Clearly state project. 

  • Only mention why we chose to use certain components 

  • Main thing is chapter 3 which is main contribution and testing. 

  • Change report title page course number to EET 4950 

  • Fix the market comparison missing again on website 

  • Double check the budget for some of the items - Updated by Bryan  - James GPIO Part 

  • Adjust spacing on acknowledgements page. 

  • Take the number off the first page 

  • Fix align to align left on Second page 

  • Add chapter names to each chapter in TOC - James 

  • Appendix C to include code. - James 

  • Appendix C.1  or C.2   

  • List of figures to be normal capitization, not all caps for everything. 

  • Update the website with new engineering specifications - Bryan 

  • In chapter 1, mention what is going to be presented. 

  • One line spacing between sections not double. 

  • Section 2.1.6 update display to 7 inch - Bryan 

  • Write in the present tense. 

  • Add images of the buck regulator and power switch with part numbers - Bryan 

  • Chapter 3 to next page. Start all chapters on their own page. - James 

  • Chapter 3 should be part of the summary for chapter 3 

  • Update figure 3.1 

  • Change the hardware designs as a paragraph. 

  • Update 3.4 room 

  • Add verbiage to hardware design section 

  • Hardware section to be updated with the device inside the case 

  • Troubleshooting has too much luckliy 

  • Move GPIO to medium level 

  • Less use of luckily in 3.4 

  • 3.7.2 formatting and relabel to GPIO interface. 

  • How to format the timeline to landscape - James 

  • Mention survey questions are from proposal phase - update description in the appendix 

  • Add medium or low level requirement for battery timeline 

Meeting #19 - 06/27/2023

Discussion:

  • Next Tuesday flying out of town

  • Testing should be done by two weeks and report in final phase

  • July 21st report is due

  • The fan has a decent impact on the temperature inside of the case but not on the heatsink

Deliverables

  • Make a final testing an results tab need to be added to website

  • Each engineering requirement testing is done separately.

  • Need to add testing results of temperature and put them in the log.

  • Testing on vehicles

  • Need to make up a checklist for engineering requirements

  • Testing should be done in two weeks

  • Review the report, most should be written by then

Discussion:

  • Majority of GUI done 

  • Speak to Dr. Davis about patent idea 

  • Work on specific test documents for each test 

Deliverables

  • Testing the Device next week on the vehicle 

  • Should have final print done this week 

  • Need to do more testing on the temperature of the device without the fan running 

  • Temperature sensor cleanup 

  • Testing on an actual vehicle and start to fill out test requirements 

  • Start working on report 

Meeting #17 - 06/13/2023

Discussion:

  • Results at 10,000 mA battery ran for hours 

  • Changed to 200mA battery that is also rechargeable 

  • Bryan did testing that was informal - need to setup a timer and get numbers. 

  • New file  

  • July 28th will be the presentation at 9:00am 

  • 40 bucks for the case 

Deliverables

  • Continuity testing for data lengths that are not the correct lengths. 

  • Work on local filtering 

  • One Wire GPIO 

  • GPIO input into programming 

  • Log the data from temperature readings on the PI 

  • Work on the wireless settings to configure 

  • 3d Printed case construction this week 

  • Update what needs to be changed in the case.

Discussion:

  • Discussion on future testing running off 12volt 

Deliverables

  • Plan to have the box ready by next Tuesday 

  • Have the work done on the GUI 

  • Incorporate the GPIO and the database functioning 

  • Change over the video to use Youtube and not a video file.

Discussion:

  • Update the time and effort log for google. 

  • Matplotlib will update as often as the CAN message comes in 

  • Discussed how the multithreading will have to work to overcome current GUI issues with waiting for CAN messages. 

  • We can use the openlab for 3d printing if in PLA, or use the 3d printing lab with ABS, we just need to reach out to Will. 

Deliverables

  • Deliverables: 

  • Make a separate page for the Gantt timeline 

  • Get multi-threading working for the CAN Bus and incorporate into the HMI display 

  • Bryan to work on the three bottom buttons, wireless, setting, and vehicle. 

  • Bryan to update the time and effort log

Discussion:

  • Better format the buttons on the GUI. 

  • Option for a manual switch should be utilized first. 

  • Need to do heat testing with the heat sink and see if a fan is necessary 

  • How is automatic switching done 

  • 3d Printer at Valencia at the Open Lab - Neil or Daniel. 

Deliverables

  • Actual project timeline. 

  • Work on bottom option on GUI. 

  • Work on Top of GUI and incorporating the database for the hardware. 

  • Put some more distance between. 

  • Start working on CAD rendering. 

  • Update the budget with new components if not there. 

  • Shift more focus to the GUI stuff. 

  • Add sim card into the budget. 

  • Add fan to budget. 

  • CAD drawing for casing 

  • Testing SIM card dongle with power 

  • Get system powered and a 12 V battery.

  • Think about having the RPi autoselect between wireless modes.

Meeting #12 - 05/09/2023

Discussion:

  • Figure out a meeting time.

  • ​Feedback from proposal presentation in an email from Dr. Ejaz​

  • Chapter 2 in the proposal will be moved to Chapter 1 in the design report.

  • Chapter 3 will be the majority of the report and show progress, data analysis, etc...

Deliverables

  • New meeting times are 12pm to 1pm on Tuesdays.

  • Review feedback from industry professionals

  • Review the rubric in Canvas for the design of the project

  • Add the usb dongle to the new budget

  • Change dates around and keep up to date on progress log.
