Week #24 - July 4th to July 10th - Complete Live Vehicle Testing - Work on Bulk of Final Report

This week I spent many hours getting the bulk of the final report sections completed for the source code and program operation. I also completed some live vehicle test to confirm that the device is working as expected on an actual vehicle.

The following video is me remotely connected to the device over the cellular connection and using both the driver screen and the technician screen to see live running data on the vehicle. The vehicle under test is a Model Year 2023 Van Hool Motorcoach with a diesel engine.

The next video was live data from the vehicle during a road test. I setup some basic dashboard information and had the HMI device connect to my home router using a vpn connection. This connection allowed me to have direct access to the Influxdb data on the device and make it possible to view the data remotely without having to actually upload the data over the internet.

The VPN connection is shown on my router screen below. Connecting to IP address 10.0.0.11 will give direct access to the HMI device as if it were on the table in my office.

This can drastically reduce the data needed on the cell connection because only the queries are run which limits the data use to just what needs to be displayed. Because the time frame is also adjustable the data can be sliced many different ways.

I also added a second temperature sensor to the one wire interface to test that it works correctly and it does. There is nothing to configure, just add the additional sensor and when the program starts up it will check for it and recognize the new sensor as shown in the figure below. You can see the two different serial numbers of the sensors and the one on the right is held in my hand.
